North & South Championship Volunteer

Rich with tradition and history, competitive golf at Pinehurst has been contested for over 100 years. You have the opportunity to be a part of this history through volunteering your time. We cordially invite you to help continue this exciting trend and support our championship traditions. Being involved has proven to be a rewarding, prideful experience for many.

Men's Championship

June 25 - June 29, 2018

Women's Championship

July 9 - 13, 2018

North & South Volunteers can assist in either or both championship weeks. Each shift length will average 4-5 hours. At this time we do not require our volunteers to work a minimum number of shifts. Therefore if you are only available one day and would like to work, you have that opportunity. Included in the $30 application fee will be one (1) Ahead shirt, a cap or visor (women), and a lunch buffet on days you work. Additional shirts may also be purchased. This Championship apparel is exclusively available to our volunteers. Please review the various job descriptions below and submit your application.

Volunteer Job Descriptions

Supply* Monday - Thursday
Volunteers will be responsible for maintaining appropriate levels of on-course player hospitality stations throughout the golf courses. This may include delivery of other Championship supplies and equipment to other committees and on-course facilities on an as needed basis. (Golf knowledge suggested)
Standards Thursday - Friday
Volunteers will be responsible for operating the scoring standards. They will be responsible for carrying and maintaining correct scoring signs for matches. Requires extensive walking. (Golf experience required)
Evacuation/Transportation Monday - Thursday
Volunteers will be responsible for moving contestants as well as volunteers that have on-course duties, and assisting in evacuating contestants in the event of inclement or severe weather. (Golf knowledge required)
Scoring Operations
The scoring committee now consists of two groups. Your availability will determine which of the two groups you will most likely work. If you prefer to work as a greenside scorer please select dates early in the week. If you prefer to be a walking scorer please select dates later in the week. See below for specifics 
Greenside Scoring Monday - Tuesday
Volunteers will collect competitor’s scores in three-hole segments and input the information into a tablet. A mandatory training session will be held on the Sunday of each tournament week. (Golf experience required, tablet experience a plus)
Walking Scoring  
Tuesday - Friday
Volunteers will follow some stroke play (Tuesday of men’s week and women’s week) and all match play rounds recording scores for each player. All scores will be entered into a tablet at the completion of each hole. A mandatory training session will be held on the Sunday of each tournament week. (Golf experience required, tablet experience a plus, and must be able to walk 18 holes)
Marshals Monday - Thursday
Volunteers will help manage cart and spectator traffic surrounding predetermined tees and crossings. On selected holes, volunteers will also be asked to let players know when a fairway is clear for play and to help locate errant tee shots.
Driving Range Attendant* Monday - Wednesday
Volunteers will greet players at the practice tee, maintain the golf balls at each station, and help players with other practice tee needs.

*May be required to lift heavy objects.
